Examination Dates Written National Board Part I Dental Examinations are administered on the same dates at all open testing centers. At least 90 days must separate the Part I examinations of any candidate. Part I is offered twice per year—in July and in December, requires one day and is always administered on a Monday. The following table lists dates on which the written National Board Part I Examination will be offered through 2006 together with the application deadline for each testing date.
A letter will be sent after the application and fee are processed. The letter verifies that they were received. For those candidates whose applications are accepted, admittance cards will be sent about three weeks before the test date. After the examination on December 11, 2006, the Part I examination will no longer be administered in written format. The Part I examination will be offered only by computer at Prometric Testing Centers. The written National Board Part I Dental Examination fee for 2006 is $165. The fee for re-examination is $90 plus $10 per subject for the written exam. Candidates submitting their application online will pay by credit card. ADA or ASDA members may pay by personal check, but their membership number must be recorded on the check. If a candidate fails to appear for an assigned examination, the candidate's examination fee, minus a $90 processing fee, will be refunded only upon written request. Refund requests must be received no later than 2 weeks after the test date. It takes approximately 60 days after administration of the examinations to process a refund.
Candidates are required to take all examinations assigned. A score of zero is reported for any assigned Part I examination or re-examination not taken. A candidate who reports late is admitted; however, such admission may be delayed to avoid disruption of the test administration team who might be giving instructions at that time. Also, a candidate who starts late must complete work by the expiration of the regular time period. Extra time will not be granted.
